Red Lipsticks for Valentine’s Day
I’m not one to wear a red dress on Valentine’s Day. I won’t get caught wearing red clothes on this day. I don’t know why, or where this came from.
But ever since my high school days I felt like it’s too much of a cliche to wear red clothing on V-Day. But for the lips and nails, it’s an entirely different story.
Especially after I’ve finally made peace with red lipsticks. For me, it’s a MUST to wear a red lipstick on Valentine’s Day. Plus a matching red nail polish! Screams L-O-V-E, love, don’t you think?
CHANEL LA FLAMBOYANTE ROUGE ALLURE VELVET LIPSTICK
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Flamboyante is a Limited Edition lipstick released in the Chanel Holiday 2014 Collection Plumes Precieuses de Chanel.
It is a warm-toned, bright orange red with a velvety, satin-matte finish. It only lasts around 3 to 4 hours on my lips, so it would be best for dinner dates. Just be careful when using the table napkin.
It’s embarrassing when you stain the restaurant’s napkins with your lipstick, right? And, trust me, this lipstick does transfer if you’re not too careful.
But even with that small issue, La Flamboyante still is one of the best red lipsticks in my collection. I love it for its shade, texture and finish.
CHANEL PIRATE ROUGE ALLURE LIPSTICK
Chanel Rouge Allure in Pirate is a Permanent Edition lipstick that had been repromoted in the Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss Collection last year. It is a cool-toned, blue red.
A true red, if you will. It is very pigmented, and full-coverage opaque color can be achieved in just 1 to 2 swipes. It has a gorgeous luminous and shiny finish and it doesn’t suck the moisture from my lips.
It lasts around 4 to 5 hours on my lips, and leaves a tiny bit of stain. Pirate would be a great lipstick for those who are not afraid to wear full-on red color on their lips.
But if you love red lipsticks, then you might love this too. I know I do!
CHANEL PIRATE ROUGE ALLURE GLOSS
I know that this one is not a lipstick. Why, then, you might wonder is Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in Pirate included in this Red Lipsticks list?
Well, for one, it seems more like a liquid lipstick than a gloss. Except for the fact that it’s glossy and shiny, you’d think that it was a liquid lipstick because it’s very pigmented.
It is almost like the Dior Addict Fluid Sticks. I have Dior Rieuse and Aventure, and both are as pigmented as Pirate lip gloss.
The other reason why Pirate is included in this list, is because it’s the best product to use on top of Chanel Pirate Rouge Allure.
If you want your Pirate lip color to last longer and to look more beautiful, then use both the Rouge Allure lipstick and the Rouge Allure Gloss in Pirate shade.
You can also pair it with the matching nail polish, Chanel Pirate Le Vernis. If you go on a date with this combination, who won’t go gaga over you?
MAC SPARKS OF ROMANCE (MATTE FROST) LIPSTICK
For a Girls’ Night Out party on Valentine’s Day, MAC Sparks of Romance lipstick is the one I recommend. It is a sexy and flirty lip color, yet glamorously fitting for partying all night.
It has micro shimmers that will sparkle every time the laser lights flash its way to your lips. It doesn’t look like you have a disco ball on your lips, but they shimmer and sparkle just enough to get the attention of whoever you want.
You can also top it with a shimmery gloss like Chanel Crazy Fuchsia Glossimer for an even more fabulous look.
MAC LA VIE EN ROUGE (MATTE) LIPSTICK
One of my Best Red Lipsticks of 2014, MAC La Vie En Rouge lipstick is a very lovely coral red with a matte finish. This is one of the MAC matte lipsticks that are surprisingly not drying on my lips.
I do have to exfoliate my lips before applying it, though, because it does accentuate dry and flaky patches on the lips.
Using La Vie En Rouge on top of MAC Prep+Prime Lip, it lasts around 6 hours on my lips. Without a lip primer, it only wears for around 4 to 5 hours.
La Vie En Rouge is very easy to apply because it does not feather nor bleed. It is definitely one of my favorites.
Definitely Hot-Date-lipstick material! I thought it was a Limited Edition, but looks like it’s here to stay. Hurrah!
MAC SALON ROUGE (MATTE) LIPSTICK
Are you a strong and independent woman? Do you have what it takes to be at the top? Well, MAC Salon Rouge lipstick has what it takes to be at the top.
It is one of the best red lipsticks out there. But it is not for the faint of heart, or should I say, lips. This red shade is a bit dark, and it takes someone who has a strong and fierce love for red lipsticks to muster the courage to wear it.
I have just started to appreciate and love red lipsticks a few months back, and I was a bit terrified to wear Salon Rouge when I first bought it. But once I applied it on my lips, I didn’t know what my fear was all about.
Salon Rouge is classified as a clean, berry red with a matte finish. It lasts really long on the lips and even leaves a nice stain.
This shade would work with most skin tones and undertones. If you like dark red lipsticks, then you might want to check this shade out.
NARS ANNABELLA AUDACIOUS LIPSTICK
If there is a Barbie pink lipstick, then there is a Snow White red lipstick. NARS Annabella lipstick is one such Snow White red lippie. It is classified as a poppy red, but on my lips it’s more like a classic red.
It has a beautiful satin finish and it looks really sexy on the lips. I love how it doesn’t suck the moisture from my lips and it stays for a good 7 to 8 hours.
NARS Annabella will be a great lipstick choice for a sexy evening look. If you want to look sexy yet sophisticated, then consider looking at this Audacious lipstick.
It becomes matte after a while, but is still not drying on the lips. It only becomes a bit drying around the 7th hour on me. But that far along the evening and date, who cares about lipsticks being drying, right?
NARS KELLY AUDACIOUS LIPSTICK
NARS Kelly lipstick is classified as a coral hibiscus, but on my lips it is a very beautiful, bright pink red. It is not an overly dramatic red, so it would work on those who are just starting to wear red lipsticks.
It could also be worn lightly by applying just 1 layer and then blotting again and again until you get the desired “stained look”.
NARS Kelly feels creamy and is not drying on the lips. When applied on properly prepped lips for a fully opaque coverage, you could eat, drink and chat all you want and it stays put.
Check the application tips at the end of this post for some help on how to achieve it. Kelly is long lasting, and stays on the lips for a good 7 to 8 hours.
INGLOT 408 (MATTE) LIPSTICK
Will you be going out on a date all day long? Isn’t it a hassle to have to reapply your lipstick every few hours or so while your date waits for you at the restaurant table or outside the restroom?
You might want to consider Inglot 408 lipstick. It is a super matte red lipstick. I love how it looks on my lips – a vivid, cool-toned red. It is neither drying nor moisturizing, and I’m already happy with it.
I really didn’t expect it to be hydrating anyways, being that it is a super matte lipstick.
Inglot 408 does make the teeth appear whiter, so you can smile at your date all you want. Just remember to check if you’ve got any spinach or whatever stuck in between your teeth.
Using a proper application technique, it lasts for well over 8 hours and stays on the lips even with eating and drinking. A really awesome lipstick, if you ask me.
Lipstick Application Tips
I forgot to include NARS Vera Audacious lipstick in this list. It is a bit similar to MAC Salon Rouge, but the formula is better. For drugstore brands, Maybelline Downtown Red ColorShow lipstick is also one to try.
Do you prefer a romantic date or a fun date? For me, I want both! A romantic date alone bores me, there always has to be something fun for me to be really happy.
Final Words
I’m a Gemini, who’s really a twin inside. Half of me wants romance and the other half wants fun and excitement. But both halves want to wear a red lipstick on Valentine’s Day.
