Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick 825 Hydrangea Review

It was only recently that Revlon Ultra HD lipstick became available locally, but I believe it was late last year when it first came out in the US. I had really high hopes for this new lipstick line because the word “HD” always seem to be very promising. Think Make Up For Ever HD and Koh Gen Do foundations which translate as real skin on HD filming. But this time, it’s for the lips.

In the promotional ads, Emma Stone is wearing HD Gladiolus which is one of the beautiful red shades. It is also one of the first four shades which I bought, but my review for today will be about the pink shade, HD Hydrangea.

Revlon Ultra HD lipstick in 825 Hydrangea is a neutral, medium coral pink with silver micro shimmers. Although these shimmers are not very noticeable once applied, it gives the lips more of a bright and luminous look.

It has a strong scent that is not really unpleasant, but might be off-putting for those who are sensitive to fragrances. These Revlon Ultra HD lipsticks have a wax-free gel technology which promises to provide vivid color without being too heavy.

In the arm swatch below, it is evident how very much pigmented Hydrangea is. One swipe is already semi-opaque and 3 swipes will give a more opaque and even coverage. Even though it has micro shimmers, it’s not drying on my lips. But it’s not moisturizing either. It’s also not forgiving on very dry lips as it accentuates dry patches and flakiness.

Hydrangea Ultra HD is a very good shade for spring and summer. Especially summer because it’s a cheerful and bright pink lip color.

To wear it during other times of the year, you can always top it with another lip color that’s more muted. I tried to wear it under Etude House Dear My Wish Lips Talk BE101 and the combination is very sweet and subtle.

Revlon Ultra HD Hydrangea can be worn by those with pigmented lips even without using a lip concealer underneath. Because it has a wax-free formula, it seems to slide around more on the lips than other regular lipsticks. So it would be advisable to use a lip liner with it to help it set and make it last longer.

The texture of Revlon Ultra HD is very smooth. Even though Hydrangea has micro shimmers, it glides easily on the lips with no tugging or dragging.

In the photos above, I only applied BB cream and a bit of concealer on my skin. Then, Revlon Hydrangea lipstick on my lips. Even though I lacked sleep and had a hangover when I took the pictures, the bright lipstick was able to put life on my rather dull and haggard face. Although I still need to apply a bit of eye makeup because my eyes were really puffy and tired here.

Revlon Ultra HD lipstick in Hydrangea does not really last long on my lips. Probably because of its wax-free formula which doesn’t cling to the lips really well. I only get around 3 to 4 hours of wear time from it. It also doesn’t leave a stain and the color is completely gone after eating and drinking.

APPLICATION TIPS

The packaging of these Ultra HD lipsticks is very simple. It is a shiny silver tube with a clear plastic cap. What I most dislike about the packaging is the fact that the lipstick sticks out of the tube even if you twist it all the way, so removing and replacing the cap will be a tedious job if you don’t want the cap to touch the lipstick.

I bought my Revlon Ultra HD lipsticks for $6.99 from Revlon in Robinsons Manila. The regular price is $4.99 at Amazon, but they are currently being sold at an introductory price of $6.99. So, I’m hoping to get more shades before the price increases.

Final words

Have you seen or tried these new lipsticks from Revlon? What shades did you get or are planning to get? Have you tried Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick Hydrangea, too?
