A recent addition to my lipstick collection, Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense is way out of my comfort zone. But I’ve been trying to embrace dark red lipsticks lately, so I decided to buy this one. Well, it’s not really overly dark that it almost looks vampiric, but it’s still dark for my taste.
This is just the second lipstick I bought from the Rouge Artist Intense line, the first one being a part of the MUFE Beauty Kit I bought a few weeks back.
Anyways, when I swatched this shade at the counter, I thought it was almost similar to NARS Vera Audacious, which I perceived before to be a very dark lipstick already. But once I got home and swatched them side by side, I saw that Rouge Artist Intense is even darker than Vera. You will see the comparison swatches at the end of this post.
MAKE UP FOR EVER describes Rouge Artist Intense:
A highly pigmented, long-lasting lipstick that delivers rich color in one stroke. Formulated with 50% more pigment than traditional lipsticks, Rouge Artist Intense gives an immediate true-to-color result. A blend of three natural waxes, the creamy texture glides on effortlessly for a long-lasting hold. The extensive color and texture range provides unlimited creativity. Rouge Artist Intense will last all day and leave your lips soft and moisturized.
Make Up For Ever (MUFE) classifies Rouge Artist Intense lipstick as a satin Bordeaux red. It is as deep as a red Bordeaux, but without the intoxication the wine brings. It is a slightly cool-toned, deep berry red with a hint of plum. It has no micro shimmers, but has a beautiful satin sheen.
Rouge Artist Intense has a floral fragrance which is a bit intense on the tube. Once applied, the scent is still slightly noticeable. The lipstick tastes the same as how it smells, if that even makes sense. Anyways, I try to ignore these factors when I have it on, but if you are sensitive to fragrances then you might want to try it out first to see if it would not be overpowering for you.
Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick
MUFE Rouge Artist Intense is very pigmented. A single swipe of the lipstick already gives an opaque finish. If you have extremely pigmented lips, this will definitely work on you. Plus, the lip color is very much buildable.
In the arm swatch below, you can see how pigmented it is with just 1 swipe. I used a light hand to swipe it, and it was still opaque. 3 swipes provide even more intense color coverage. It also has a very gorgeous satiny shine that is evident not only on the arm swatch, but also once applied on the lips.

I would recommend exfoliating the lips beforehand, though. Even though Rouge Artist Intense doesn’t settle into lip lines, it does accentuate chapped lips. If you have extremely dry lips, you might also need to apply a good moisturizing lip balm before applying this lipstick.
It feels really creamy and smooth, and it glides smoothly across the lips. If you have chapped lips, it will still glide easily on your lips, but like I said it will accentuate dry and flaky patches.
I find that applying a lip liner is not necessary for me. Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense doesn’t feather or bleed, and it’s able to cover my pigmented lips with deep and intense color. It feels satiny smooth on my lips and doesn’t dry out my lips at all. In fact, it’s even a bit moisturizing!

On my lips, Rouge Artist Intense is a very gorgeous and intense wine red. It’s like I drank red wine and it stained my lips with this pretty color. I also love that it has a beautiful satin finish which is shiny and luminous. It can also be toned down a bit like how I did in the face photo above. It lasts around 5 to 6 hours on my lips and leaves a bit of stain. After eating and drinking, reapplication is also necessary unless you’re happy with just a stained-lip effect.

MUFE APPLICATION TIPS:
♡ Use a lip liner to shape and define lips.
♡ Fill in lip with liner for added stability.
♡ Apply lipstick directly or with the #304 brush for better precision.
PRO TIP: Due to its high content in pigments, professional make up artists also use the ROUGE ARTIST INTENSE as a blush.
I bought MUFE Rouge Artist Intense lipstick for Php1,400 from Make Up For Ever in Mall of Asia and I must say that I love it! I’m really warming up to dark lipsticks.
