MAC Unlimited Lipstick Review, Price, and Comparison

MAC Unlimited Lipstick is pretty old news, but is still worth a post. It had been released years ago, and I did buy it that time, together with Overtime and Good To Go.

I know that I gave Overtime to one of my friends because it was too bright for me at the time. I gave Good To Go to my mother-in-law because she loved it when she saw it on me, and I wasn’t a fan of red lips during those days anyways.

But with Unlimited, I don’t even remember why I gave it away. Since it’s a Permanent lipstick, I was able to buy it again so I can give it another chance. MAC Unlimited Lipstick Pro Longwear Lip crème

What MAC says about Pro Longwear Lipcreme:

Lightweight texture, creamy finish and comfortable longwear combine in this has-it-all pro-class lip colour. Slick in use, applies without need of a top coat – and still lasts up to 12 hours. Won’t feather or transfer, and the colour stays true. Helps lips stay soft and hydrated.

MAC Unlimited is classified as a muted dirty rose. It is a lipcreme, so I was expecting it to be really creamy. Well, it still feels creamy, but is not overly so. In fact, if it didn’t say “Lipcreme” on the package, I would have thought that it’s a satin lipstick.

Performance

On my arm swatch, it is a slightly bright pinkish rose. I believe that this color could work on almost all skintones, whether cool, warm or neutral.

It would definitely work on those with pigmented lips like mine even without a lip liner or base. My lips are moody.

Sometimes they’re pigmented, and at times they’re pale. But now that they’re more pigmented, I love how Unlimited is able to cover it.

From the arm swatch above, you can see how pigmented Unlimited Lipstick is. With just 1 swipe, it is already semi-opaque. Applying 2 or more layers will give a more even and full coverage opaque color.

Finish and Texture

The texture of MAC Unlimited is creamy and it applies smoothly. It glides easily on the lips and does not tug at all. It evenly imparts color across the lips and does not settle into lip lines.

I find that the best way to apply this lipstick is to dab lightly all over the lips. If I want just a light lip color, I stop here.

But if I want brighter and bolder lips, I then apply more by swiping the lipstick across the lips. Then blot lightly to avoid color transfer.

Features

Unlimited Lipstick has a bit of satin sheen, but after a while, the satin sheen is gone and it becomes a little bit more matte. I recommend exfoliating the lips prior to application because it does accentuate flaky and dry patches on the lips.

I don’t experience any feathering with this lipstick. However, even though I blot it after application, it still does transfer.

The color of MAC Unlimited on my lips is a medium, brownish rose. A few minutes after application, it becomes a bit brighter and the color turns more pinkish rose.

It looks a bit dry on the lips, but is not really drying. However, it’s not moisturizing either. It feels a little heavy on the lips, though. If I press my lips together, they kind of stick like glue. Lol!

I usually apply MAC Prep+Prime Lip instead of a lip balm under MAC lipsticks. It helps the lipstick set on my lips beautifully and prevents my lips from chapping and drying out.

It doesn’t last 12 hours on the lips as promised by the brand, but is still pretty long lasting. Even without a lip primer, Unlimited wore for well over 8 hours on my lips. After eating and drinking, the color faded a little but is still there.

Where to buy?

I bought Unlimited for $18 from MAC website. Wow! Didn’t know that these lipcremes cost more than the regular MAC lipsticks!

I checked the box and it does have a little bit more compared to the regular ones. The Pro Longwear Lipcremes have 3.6g worth of lipstick while the regular only has 3g. MAC Unlimited can also be bought here for $18.

Final Words

I love the vanilla scent of MAC Lipsticks, and Unlimited Pro Longwear Lipcreme also has the same scent. The packaging, though, is different from the regular MAC lipsticks.

This one has a slightly slimmer and shorter tube. It clicks open and close, and the edges are less rounded than that of the regular lipsticks.

MAC Unlimited Lipstick is great for everyday use. If you like rose colors, then this is an awesome lipstick. Another great thing is that it is long lasting but not drying.

Overall, I love it. Not a party color for my lips, but an everyday color that will suit a no-makeup makeup look really well. Especially for those with pigmented lips. This will be an MLBB (my-lips-but-better) shade.

What is your favorite everyday lipstick? Have you tried MAC Unlimited Lipstick? What do you think about this shade?
