If MAC Ravishing Lipstick had not been repromoted as part of the MAC Pencilled In Collection, I wouldn’t have been able to buy it from my local MAC counter.
Even though it’s part of the permanent range of MAC lipsticks in the US, it hadn’t been available at my country until now.
So you see just how glad I am that I finally got my hands on Ravishing, as well as MAC Impassioned. I used to just imagine how they would look on my lips.
But now that I’ve added both lipsticks to my makeup collection, I have finally realized why I have been lemming for them for a few years now.
However, I should note that both lipsticks only became available locally because they were both part of the Pencilled In Collection. So they’re still not yet part of the permanent line here in Manila.
But I’m still hoping that it will change in the future, because I would really love to be able to buy a new one once I’ve used this lipstick up.
What MAC says about their lipsticks
Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M•A•C famous.
MAC PENCILLED IN COLLECTION
Draw decidedly defined lips with new on-trend shades of M∙A∙C’s profoundly pigmented Lip Pencil, now in carbon-copy shades of your favourite lipsticks.
The smooth, creamy texture ensures a pristine shape. And to finish off the look, try topping lips with Lipglass in aficionado-approved shades of Ruby Woo, Heroine and Candy Yum-Yum– which are now part of the permanent Lipglass lineup.
MAC Ravishing Cremesheen Lipstick is classified as a clean, light peachy coral with a Cremesheen finish. In the bullet, it looks like an almost nude, warm-toned peach.
As with most MAC lipsticks, it has the signature vanilla scent that most of us have grown to love. It also doesn’t have any weird flavor or taste, which is another plus.
Ravishing is not overly glossy or shiny, but it does have a beautiful luminous finish.
MAC Ravishing Lipstick Cremesheen Swatches
For a light-colored lipstick, MAC Ravishing is pigmented. Although it’s not as pigmented as NARS Raquel Audacious lipstick, but it’s still able to cover my pigmented lips without any problems.
Lightly swatched on my arm, it is almost semi opaque with 1 swipe. But the color is buildable, as you can see. With 3 swipes, the color is more opaque.
I can get away with not having to apply a lip concealer or primer underneath Ravishing. But I find that without a good lip primer, it applies a bit patchy.
Especially if applied directly to the lips. To remedy this, I apply using a lip brush or apply directly then blend with either a lip brush or my clean finger.
Because it has a Cremesheen formula, MAC Ravishing has a very smooth and creamy texture. It glides easily across the lips with no tugging or dragging at all.
I’m a bit disappointed because it settles into lip lines, and accentuates chapped lips as well. But it will still be remedied by blending the lip color with a lip brush or clean finger.
It would also be better to exfoliate the lips before applying Ravishing. Besides, it’s always best to have smooth lips to apply lipstick on.
Even though it has a creamy texture, it sets well on the lips and doesn’t feel heavy at all. It’s not a good idea to apply more than 3 layers, though.
So if you have very pigmented lips, I think this lipstick might not work for you. But I guess you can still try if you really want this shade. There’s also a lot of lip concealers out in the market which you can use to make this shade wearable on your lips.
MAC Ravishing Lipstick Cremesheen Lip Swatches
On my lips, MAC Ravishing Lipstick is an almost nude peachy coral with a luminous finish. It’s a great everyday lipstick for those with light to medium skintones who don’t want to wear darker lip colors.
However, if you find it a bit bright on you, you can always tone the color down a bit by blotting it.
Ravishing is not drying on my lips, but it’s not hydrating either. At least it doesn’t suck the moisture from my lips after wearing it for hours.
I also find that if I do my lipstick blotting technique, it doesn’t transfer as much, nor does it slide around my lips.
It’s longevity is okay for me as it lasts around 4 to 5 hours on my lips. There is also some color left even after eating and drinking, but it wouldn’t hurt to reapply Ravishing, just to make sure that the lip color is even.
Color and Texture Comparison Swatches from L-R:
A – MAC Ravishing lipstick
B – Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense 39
C – Chanel Mystique 57 Rouge Coco
D – MAC Flamingo Lustre lipstick
This lipstick is definitely for keeps. I’m glad that it doesn’t clash with my skintone, because a lot of bright, light orange or peach lipsticks do.
Final Words
Although it doesn’t really look like my natural lip color, I can still wear Ravishing with a natural, no-makeup makeup look. I can also wear it with a smokey eye makeup for nights out.
A very versatile lip color that I really love. I bought it for Php1,000 from MAC in Glorietta 4 Makati. Alternatively, it’s also available for $16 here.
